Emotional Intelligence in Islam
This course aims to examine the popular framework of Emotional Intelligence as explained by Dr. Daniel Goleman in his iconic best-seller book titled, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More than I.Q, by juxtaposing it with the Prophetic model and the principles of Islamic tarbiyah as a whole. The 5 qualities outlined by Dr. Goleman to be discussed are: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Students will learn how these qualities are perfectly aligned with core Islamic principles using sacred texts and examples from the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) life, in sha Allah.
